Michigan State basketball is hoping to land one of the top targets in the 2019 class. Five-star forward Keion Brooks has serious superstar potential.

If there’s one prospect in the 2019 class who Tom Izzo is hoping to win over, it has to be five-star small forward Keion Brooks from Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Spartans are battling it out with Indiana and Kentucky, predominantly, but until he makes a final decision, Brooks’ potential suitors are going to give him the full-court press, making Izzo’s job even tougher.

That list of potential suitors was unveiled by Brooks on June 10, consisting of Michigan, Indiana, UCLA, Texas, Georgetown, North Carolina, Iowa, Kentucky, Purdue and, of course, the Spartans.

It’s an impressive top 10, but Michigan State has been in on Brooks since the beginning. Izzo has put in the work to scout him in person a handful of times and the two sides have developed a strong bond, one that cannot simply be broken because there’s a new sheriff in Bloomington (Archie Miller). His hiring at Indiana definitely helps the Hoosiers’ chances, though.

Brooks has that superstar feel to him, though, that could rival Miles Bridges and Jaren Jackson Jr. He could become one of the, if not the, premier recruits Izzo has ever won over.

The 6-8, 185-pound forward has an impressive set of skills which makes him as unique as anyone Izzo has recruited in East Lansing. He’s got the height to play in the post or on the wing — but needs to add weight — and plays a solid inside-out game. He can put the ball on the floor to get to the hoop and absorb contact, hit mid-range jumpers or throw down put-back slams. He can truly do it all.

If Brooks does pick Michigan State, expect him to earn the level of praise that Bridges and Jackson Jr. received. This kid is special and doesn’t quite get enough attention — although he is ranked the No. 9 recruit in the nation.
