4. Growing more comfortable in the pocket

When Brian Lewerke hit the field as a full-time starter to begin the 2017 season, he looked a bit shaky in the pocket. He had happy feet and seemed to be looking to run right away rather than check all of his options before making that decision. He felt the pocket closing before it truly was.

Sure, this led to some huge rushing plays, including the 60-yard eye-opening touchdown run versus Western Michigan, but he didn’t quite look comfortable in the pocket.

As the year wore on, he improved in that area. He looked like a much more comfortable quarterback under center, took his time, went through his progressions and made the right throw, time after time.

During the spring game, he looked even more comfortable in the pocket which is great news for his progression.

Comfortability in the pocket is a big deal in college football these days and both Connor Cook and Kirk Cousins had that, now Lewerke is able to measure up.
