Michigan State football accepted the commitment of three-star offensive tackle Damon Kaylor from Indiana. Here’s what he brings to the table.

Since the beginning of April, Michigan State football’s 2019 recruiting class has gone from four commits to nine. On Wednesday night, that number became 10 as three-star offensive tackle Damon Kaylor from Huntington, Ind., gave his verbal pledge to Mark Dantonio and the Spartans.

The quick commitment came as a bit of a surprise as he was just offered on May 10 and his visit to East Lansing flew under the radar. He announced his commitment to Michigan State via Twitter on Wednesday evening after posting a “big announcement tonight” tweet earlier in the day.

It’s hard to imagine not wanting an under-the-radar offensive tackle with Kaylor’s size and who moves well. He stands 6-foot-6 and weighs about 315 pounds. He’s a menace to opposing linemen and stays low, driving his hips and keeping defenders in front of him — usually they end up on the ground via pancake.

Another aspect of his game which impresses me is his pass protection. He has good lateral quickness and doesn’t get caught holding defenders, rather he has strong hands and protects the edge.

Michigan State has done well with low-rated recruits on the offensive line in the past (Cole Chewins, Luke Campbell, Jack Conklin), so don’t let his low ranking scare you off. He’s listed as the No. 1,292 as well as the No. 108 tackle in the country and 17th-best Indiana prospect, per 247Sports.

The Spartans beat out programs such as Boston College, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, Virginia and recent offer Indiana for his services. His addition has no impact on Devontae Dobbs’ recruitment.
