Michigan State football has made the cut for one of the top players in the entire 2019 class, five-star offensive tackle Devontae Dobbs.

Mark Dantonio is a heck of a coach, but if there’s one thing about him fans wish he could improve on, it would be recruiting with the big boys of college football. Rarely does Michigan State land those elite recruits ranked in the top-100 nationally.

Michigan State has already reeled in one top-100 player in the 2019 class in Belleville’s Julian Barnett, but there could be another addition in the near future as five-star Devontae Dobbs released his top eight schools.

Also making the cut were USC, Georgia, Oklahoma, Clemson, Florida State, Auburn and Ohio State. The Spartans are facing stiff competition to land one of the country’s top-10 recruits.

Dobbs, a Belleville teammate and good friend of Barnett’s, is a five-star offensive tackle, ranked No. 10 in the class and third-best at his position, per 247Sports. He’s also ranked the No. 2 player in the state of Michigan, which could go a long way for in-state recruiting if the Spartans can land him.

Michigan State has been somewhat cleaning up the state in the 2019 class, landing Barnett, four-star quarterback Dwan Mathis, four-star tackle Spencer Brown, three-star defensive end Adam Berghorst and three-star linebacker Marcel Lewis. Dobbs would be the cherry on top.

If you’re looking for a guy in the 2019 class who could start from day one for the Spartans, it’s Dobbs. The 6-4, 270-pound tackle from Belleville could help continue that pipeline to Michigan State — three-star cornerback Davion Williams committed to MSU in 2018 and four-star forward Gabe Brown committed to Tom Izzo’s program.

Michigan State is currently the favorite to land Dobbs, but Ohio State could be a dark-horse contender to steal him from the Spartans.
