3. LJ Scott touchdown reach for Big Ten title (2015)

The call: “LJ Scott running right. No, he didn’t get in! Or did he? Yes! Touchdown, Spartans. What strength, by the true freshman.”

Everyone loves a good Gus Johnson call, especially when it’s reacting to their team’s good fortune. He called one heck of a game for the Spartans versus Iowa in the Big Ten title game back in 2015 and outside of LJ Scott’s touchdown reach which nearly brought him out of his chair, he later muttered a phrase that resonated with Michigan State fans for weeks leading up to the playoff, “Hello College Football Playoff, East Lansing.”

As it later became known, ‘The Reach’ was Scott’s most memorable Spartan play to date. He has had a strong career in the green and white, but nothing has topped the moment he fought off a host of Iowa defenders to reach the ball across the goal-line for the winning score.

Scott was just a freshman at the time and happened to be in the game at the most crucial point in the game. It was the biggest drive of his life and he capped it off with the gutsiest of stretched, showcasing his strength.

Listen to Johnson with your eyes closed and you’ll be able to feel yourself back in that moment when everyone thought Scott was about to be stuffed short of the end zone.
