Michigan State offered three-star Ohio-native offensive guard J.D. Duplain last week and the Spartans look to be surging into the lead.

If you’re a solid three-star recruit from the state of Ohio, there’s a good chance Ohio State won’t even give you a look. The Buckeyes and Urban Meyer are recruiting at such a high level that they can go into just about any state and become the favorite for local blue-chippers.

Those same three-star prospects have thrived in East Lansing with Michigan State. It’s not like Meyer is purposely shunning talent in his backyard, but he has enough four and five-star prospects knocking on his door to play football for the Buckeyes, he doesn’t have the spots for the local three-star kids.

Mark Dantonio does.

In fact, the Spartan head coach may be close to reeling in another Ohio prospect who could turn into a heck of a collegiate starter. Michigan State offered three-star guard J.D. Duplain last weekend and has since surged into the lead for him.

If you’re looking for a hard-nosed offensive lineman who can play with a mean streak, look no further than Duplain.

Duplain stays low and has a powerful base which allows him to launch defenders seemingly into another area code. He doesn’t let up until the whistle, which is a coach’s favorite trait, and he doesn’t back down from challenges. Defenders look scared to line up across from him.

Michigan State is currently the 100 percent Crystal Ball favorite on 247Sports with 10 votes. The 6-4, 290-pound guard had Indiana, Kentucky, Arkansas and Missouri as his favorites not long ago, but the Spartans are surging. He’s ranked the No. 677 recruit and 30th-best offensive guard.
