Growing up in Texas, Jaren Mangham may want to revisit his Lone Star State roots for college as Texas, Texas A&M and TCU are all in the running to land him.

Luckily for Michigan State, the Spartans are the lone program in the state of Michigan that has made a lasting impression on him. In his recent ‘top 16′ schools, he listed Michigan State as one of just two teams from the Big Ten (the other was Minnesota). That’s a good sign for the Spartans if he decides he wants to remain close to where he’s been playing high school ball at Detroit Cass Tech.

It’s rare for a Cass Tech star to shun Michigan as head coach Thomas Wilcher played college ball for the Wolverines alongside Jim Harbaugh. However, Mangham could follow the footsteps of Kalon Gervin and choose the Spartans over dozens of out-of-state offers.

Mangham is listed as the nation’s No. 31 athlete and 330th-best player as well as No. 9 in the state of Michigan, but those rankings are slightly lower than they should be.

The 6-1, 212-pounder from Detroit has the tools to become the Spartans’ next star running back.
