Five-star point guard Tyrese Maxey is closing in on a decision and he released his list of top five schools, including Michigan State, on Thursday.

Michigan State’s 2019 recruiting class has yet to take off, but the Spartans are in on some high-profile talent from around the country.

That includes five-star Garland, Texas, point guard Tyrese Maxey who will be announcing his college decision on May 9, according to his Twitter.

Maxey’s top five consists of Michigan State, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Kentucky and Texas. The only surprising aspect of his top schools list is the fact that SMU was left off despite his father getting a job with the program.

The five-star from Texas is tough to stay in front of and he is a great shot-creator and he drives to the basket with ease. He stands 6-foot-3, weighing in at 185 pounds which gives him decent size for the position.

Moreover, he has excellent vision and explosiveness and a decent shot, which looks awfully familiar — his shot is eerily similar to Cassius Winston’s. His athleticism and burst to the basket makes him an ideal addition to the point guard position, but he may not be the Spartans’ top option — not based on talent, but rather mutual interest — as both Rocket Watts and Harlond Beverly are high on the list of targets as well.

Maxey is listed as the No. 13 recruit in the 2019 class as well the second-best point guard, per 247Sports. Kentucky is the overwhelming favorite to land the five-star, though.
