Despite some speculation regarding four-star quarterback Dwan Mathis’ pledge, he’s reaffirmed his commitment to Michigan State.

When a top recruit commits to a school with about a year, or more, left until National Signing Day, there’s always going to be speculation about a de-commitment. Such has been the case with four-star Dwan Mathis, especially since Michigan State’s quarterback situation is loaded.

Mathis, a 2019 pledge, committed to the Spartans over the likes of Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Iowa State and Oregon and he’s been a verbal pledge since September. He was also formerly committed to Iowa State, which makes his pledge seem somewhat flimsy.

The Oak Park (Mich.) High School prospect and fifth-best player in the state of Michigan, according to 247Sports, took to Twitter to reaffirm his commitment to the Spartans.

Not many recruits would go this far if there were rumors about his commitment not being as solid as it once was. Despite having guys like Brian Lewerke, Rocky Lombardi and Theo Day on the depth chart ahead of him when he steps foot on campus next summer, Mathis isn’t shying away from the competition nor the likelihood of a redshirt.

There’s a chance his recruitment could heat up in terms of offers given his potential and elite frame at 6-foot-5 and nearly 200 pounds, but he is green through and through.
