Michigan State has offered another elite defensive lineman in the 2019 class in four-star Rodas Johnson from Columbus, Ohio.

‘Tis the season for recruiting. Michigan State has been shooting out offers left and right as the state of Ohio continues to be an area of focus for Mark Dantonio.

On Tuesday evening, the coaching staff extended an offer to four-star Columbus-native defensive tackle Rodas Johnson. He is one of two major offers on the day — the other being elite 2021 Belleville defensive end prospect Damon Payne.

The Spartans became Johnson’s 25th offer and ninth from the Big Ten, according to his Twitter. It’s clear he’s one of the hottest commodities on the defensive line in the 2019 class.

Michigan State has had plenty of success in the state of Ohio over the years and are hoping to reel in Johnson despite being a later offer. However, Michigan, Notre Dame and Penn State seem to be his three favorites with less than a year to National Signing Day.

Johnson also holds offers from Oklahoma, Louisville, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Florida, among others. He may have interest in the hometown team, Ohio State, but the Buckeyes have yet to extend an offer, putting them behind in his recruitment.

Many Ohio-natives who don’t get offers from Ohio State excel with the Spartans and Johnson could be the next, although Dantonio and crew have plenty of ground to make up with the Fighting Irish, Wolverines and Nittany Lions.

Johnson has great size at 6-foot-3 and 285 pounds, but most of his highlights are from the offensive side of the ball. He shows incredible speed for his size and can get out in the open field to make big blocks, nearly keeping pace with his running back. On defense, he showcases that same burst and will be a nightmare for opposing backs.
