Michigan State’s top target in the 2019 class could be four-star defensive end Michael Fletcher from Flint. Could he be the next to commit?

The 2019 recruiting class is slowly growing, but Michigan State has its eye on one of the gems of the Midwest who actually resides down the road in Flint, Mich. Michael Fletcher, a four-star defensive end, has the potential to be a star at the collegiate level, but Michigan State has to duke it out for his services.

It seems like Michigan is the Spartans’ biggest threat for Fletcher, but Michigan State has been making a serious push for him of late.

Moreover, he’s been talking with some of Michigan State’s 2019 commits such as four-star offensive tackle Spencer Brown.

Brown joked about Fletcher being a silent commit on Twitter which would make Spartan fans and coaches extremely happy.

However, his recruitment is relatively wide open between the two in-state foes and the Spartans may currently have the upper-hand, but the process is far from over. Don’t sleep on a team like Wisconsin who could be the biggest out-of-state threat and which will be getting his first official visit in June.

Fletcher is Michigan State’s top must-have target in the 2019 class. All you need to do is look at his highlight reel to realize it.

Although Fletcher’s speed off the snap isn’t wildly impressive, he’s still one of those physically-imposing players who can cause problems with his strength and ability to use his base as a driving force into the backfield. If he stays low enough, he will be a nightmare for opposing linemen.

Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing in at 240 pounds, Fletcher has the ideal size for the defensive end positions and just needs to add a little speed to his game — he already has the strength.

Fletcher is ranked the No. 228 prospect and 15th-best strong-side defensive end in the class as well as the sixth-best Michigan recruit, according to 247Sports. Expect this recruitment to come down to the Spartans and Wolverines.
