Michigan State Football: 5 biggest questions facing the Spartans in spring 2018
1. Can Brian Lewerke take that next step?
Brian Lewerke could be the next great quarterback to come from Michigan State. The junior from Arizona has been in the system long enough to be considered an expert of the offense. He commanded respect from his teammates in 2017 and became one of the conference’s better gunslingers, providing an interesting dual-threat ability.

In fact, he passed for 2,793 yards and 20 touchdowns with just seven interceptions as a sophomore, adding 559 rushing yards and five more scores. He was one of the bigger surprises and a breath of fresh air after 2016 with Tyler O’Connor and Damion Terry.
Lewerke needs to take that next step that Connor Cook and Kirk Cousins took at one point in their careers, going from good to great. He’s good right now, but with some improved accuracy and decision-making, Lewerke could be great.
