3. Matt McQuaid is clutch

Raise your hand if you saw Matt McQuaid being the hero of this game. Now that no one has their hands raised, we can praise the junior guard for his play on both ends of the floor.

Outside of playing solid defense all night long, McQuaid hit some incredibly clutch shots. He made three 3-pointers in the first half and then went quiet on the offensive end, but knocked down the biggest shot of the game with just over a minute left.

Cassius Winston drove the lane, couldn’t find an opportunity to get his own shot up and kicked it out to an open McQuaid for a trifecta, giving Michigan State a four-point lead.

This is what we need to see McQuaid do more on a regular basis. He’ll have games like this here and there, but never consistently.

It was nice to see him not shy away from the big-time shot and he was arguably the reason Michigan State was able to escape with the win.
