The 2018 season is a ways away but the time of preparation starts now. As Michigan State prepares for 2018, we take a look at the offense.

Michigan State has a lot of big names on offense next season which could provide some electricity.

Let’s take a look at some names to look out for in 2018.

Backfield

Let’s start with the backfield. For a first-year starter in the Big Ten, Brian Lewerke had an outstanding season. He threw for 2,793 and threw for 20 touchdowns, adding in his 486 rushing yards and five touchdowns — how could you think any differently?

I’m sure you’ve heard the Connor Cook, Kirk Cousins and Drew Stanton comparisons but honestly, Lewerke’s a new breed of Spartan quarterback.

Michigan State has never had a quarterback with rushing ability and agility like Lewerke. As for running backs, Michigan State will always have a relevant running game — plus, LJ Scott is back. Keep an eye out for Connor Heyward he could be a great third-down bruiser for the Spartans in 2018

Wide receivers

The most exciting part about Michigan State has to be the young wideouts. Yes, the Spartans lost Trishton Jackson and Hunter Rison, but the future is still bright.

There’s the clear ‘Big 3’ for Michigan State right now. That’s sticky-handed Felton Davis III, playmaker Cody White and off the edge speed with Darrell Stewart Jr.  In 2018, expect new names to come along and add to the fire. Cam Chambers is a player who I think will get his shot for the Spartans — he showed a few plays in 2017 that raised my eyebrow for his future.

Julian Major is another player I think will mix well. His size and the pure ability he has is evidence enough — plus, he enrolled early. A couple more names to keep an eye out for are CJ Hayes and Laress Nelson. The latter came in a few times and made big plays for the Spartans expect him to come along and also expect to see Hayes get his chance to shine in 2018.

Tight ends

The Spartans’ tight ends have a bright future as well though Matt Sokol had an OK season. Matt Dotson will become more of a known name in 2018. Jack Camper and freshman Trenton Gillison could show up in 2018 as well.

The future is bright for the Spartans. If Michigan State can stay motivated, humble and focused expect to see an electrifying offensive season for the Spartans in 2018.
