One of the programs reaching out most to five-star power forward Alonzo Gaffney from Cleveland, Ohio, has been Michigan State. While his name hasn’t been one fans have been hearing a lot of, that may change in the near future, especially if he keeps rising up recruiting boards.

Michigan State’s biggest competition for the Cleveland-native are North Carolina, Louisville, Georgetown and, of course, Ohio State. The Buckeyes are trying to keep the top player from Ohio home and with the success Chris Holtmann is having down in Columbus, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Gaffney buy in.

Gaffney is a slim 6-foot-9, 190-pound power forward who possesses the ability to play on the perimeter as well as post up. He seems to be most successful when he drives to the bucket, making defenders come out to the perimeter only to get burned down the lane.

The slim power forward has a similar game to Jaren Jackson Jr. and maybe could be in that same mold if he were to add some weight — which is likely since he’s only a junior. He’s ranked the No. 17 recruit in the class, as a five-star, and is the fourth-best power forward in the country.
