Michigan State basketball will be getting an important visit from five-star power forward Vernon Carey Jr., the nation’s No. 1 recruit in 2019.

Although the news on the court over the past two weeks hasn’t been all that positive, Michigan State is looking to make a big-time splash off it. In fact, five-star power forward Vernon Carey Jr. is planning to take his first official visit to East Lansing in February.

According to reports, the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit in the 2019 class will be in East Lansing for the weekend of the Purdue game on Feb. 10-11.

Tom Izzo has yet to land a 2019 commit just yet, but is after some of the top talent in the state of Michigan and Carey Jr., along with Indiana’s Keion Brooks, is the Spartans’ top out-of-state target.

Carey Jr. has listed the Spartans among the teams recruiting him the hardest for a while now and the fact that they’re getting his first official visit is a major positive. He could be a nice replacement for Miles Bridges in a couple of years and he’s the consensus No. 1 player in the entire country.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native is also being recruited hard by Duke, Miami, Kansas and North Carolina to go along with over a dozen other offers. The last contact, in person, he had with the Spartans was back on Dec. 20 when Dane Fife visited the five-star forward.
