4. Recording back-to-back top-10 wins

This is an extension on the PK80 title victory, but winning back-to-back games against top-10 teams is something no team in college basketball has done this season. Heck, you rarely see teams win two games against top-10 teams all year, let alone in consecutive games, but Michigan State did just that.

The first win was in the PK80 title game against No. 9 North Carolina, and it wasn’t all that close. The Spartans held the Tar Heels to their lowest shooting percentage in a complete game in school history, also limiting them to 45 points in an 18-point win.

Notre Dame came to East Lansing for the next top-10 matchup and the Spartans won the Big Ten/ACC Challenge rather easily, 81-63. Michigan State jumped out to an early lead and held the Fighting Irish’s explosive offense in check before they made a second-half run. Michigan State quickly squashed that and moved on to victory.

Those back-to-back top-10 wins were notable, but there is one more moment that deserves recognition which almost got a spot on this list and that’s the four straight 100-point showings to end the month of December. It’s the first time that’s happened in program history.
