Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio picked up his 100th win since taking over in East Lansing with a blowout win in the Holiday Bowl.

A season ago, angry fans and some uninformed media members were talking about just how hot Mark Dantonio’s seat was getting at Michigan State. He had just gone 3-9 and had a disastrous offseason while his rivals were getting stronger.

How did the head coach respond to the seemingly endless hate? Only by leading Michigan State to 10 wins and recording his 100th career victory since taking over in East Lansing back in 2007.

We saw everything from Dantonio on Thursday night as his Spartans took down Mike Leach and Washington State, including smiles, ice baths and a cake with “100” written on it, presented to him by the Holiday Bowl.

It was good to see the head coach smiling again, especially after all the turmoil in the offseason which was carried over from the nightmare of the 2016 campaign.

Who would have thought we would be talking about a 10-win season in 2017 after what had happened in 2016? It’s almost unfathomable. Fans were talking about winning seven games and being happy, but he went one, or three, steps further and won 10-plus games for the sixth time in eight years.

Dantonio is one of the best coaches in college football and it seems as if the future is as bright as ever in East Lansing. The team returns essentially everyone next season and the recruiting classes continue to get better.
