2. Demetrious Cox, S (2012-16)

I remember the stories about then-defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi staking out Demetrious Cox’s home in Pennsylvania. Penn State was making a push for this highly-regarded player. Cox was a must-get yet it took him three years to claim a starting spot.

Mark Dantonio always says a season goes as his senior class does and 2016 proved to be a disastrous one. The athleticism jumps off the screen when watching him play yet he was unable to harness it on the field.

However, Cox was unable parlay that talent and potential into being a solid  Big Ten safety. Spartan fans remember his untimely mental lapses various contests in 2015 and 2016. It was especially frustrating during the 2016 because MSU needed him to step up and be the player everyone thought he could be.

Cox’s career is almost overshadowed by his run-ins with the law. It is disappointing because as a fan, I always felt he was much better than the on-field performances he provided.
