From one in-state cornerback (Davion Williams) to another, Kalon Gervin could also content for early playing time. He’s the Spartans’ highest-ranked signee in the 2018 class and he was originally committed to play for Notre Dame before re-opening his recruitment.

Gervin, a four-star from Detroit, has been a ‘Plan A’ target for the Spartans for a while now and he’s one of those players who Mark Dantonio said could play right away. There’s no reason this kid can’t make the regular cornerback rotation as a freshman because he’s a star in the making.

Although he’s not as big as Williams, he is every bit as athletic and aggressive in the defensive backfield. He stands 5-foot-11 and weighs in at 180 pounds. According to 247Sports, he runs a 4.45 40-yard dash which is quite impressive for a defensive back who is trying to keep up with speedy receivers.

The Cass Tech star is slated to enroll early at Michigan State and that’s another reason he could be an instant contributor. He will have a chance to make a name for himself, like Josiah Scott did, as an early enrollee and impress during spring. Expect this kid to see plenty of action in 2018.
