Despite having a loaded defensive backfield in this class, Davion Williams is a kid who could find his way onto either side of the ball. He played a little cornerback and receiver at Belleville during his senior year and this was after switching over from his primary sport of basketball. He was a top recruit in the state of Michigan for both sports.

However, his upside is high on the gridiron and Mark Dantonio noticed that. He offered Williams as a cornerback, but like most Dantonio-recruited players, he’s versatile enough to play multiple positions and will likely do so until he can earn his way into a starting job.

For example, Williams could be a decent receiver, although there’s plenty of depth there, too, or even a safety until the staff can find a spot for him in the regular cornerback rotation. His 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame is perfect for either of those extra positions.

In the end, though, I think Williams has the highest upside of any three-star commit in this class and his athleticism is through the roof. His basketball playing days have helped him on the football field and he’s going to be impactful from day one.
