Offense: C+

The offense needs to be more explosive on a regular basis. To start the game, the Spartans were held in check by the Thunderbirds, missing a number of open shots and failing to get the ball into the post. Michigan State had a clear advantage down low and just didn’t make use of it.

Tom Izzo had to be frustrated with his team’s half-court offense until the final 10 minutes of the game as they were relatively silenced. Fortunately, the Spartans caught fire late in the game and extended its lead from five points to 25.

Michigan State finished the game with a 48 percent clip from the floor and 47 percent from 3-point range, but the 11 turnovers were a bit of an eye-opener against such an inferior opponent. A grade of C+ might be harsh, but with the amount of talent Michigan State has on this side of the floor, struggling to get anything going until the final 10 minutes is inexcusable.

With the amount of talent the Spartans have, they are held to a much higher standard. If I were to grade only the final 10 minutes of the game, it would be closer to an A, but the rest of the game held it back.
