1. Defense holds Southern Utah under 60 points

Should we really be surprised at this point? Michigan State’s defense has done nothing but get better as the season has progressed. Usually the Spartans have a decent defense, but this year’s squad has been downright dominant for Tom Izzo.

In fact, the Spartans are allowing an average of 61.1 points per game which is good for 11th in the nation and the defense inside the 3-point line has been incredible. Teams are shooting just 32 percent from inside the arc on the Spartans which is easily the top mark in the country from that range.

The Spartans have held six straight opponents under 65 points and five of those teams have failed to crack the 60-point plateau. Although the Thunderbirds have a decent offense which averages about 83 points per game, the Spartans will clamp down yet again.

Don’t be surprised to see a seventh straight opponent finish under 65 points and a sixth in seven games to miss the 60-point mark. The Spartans’ defensive dominance will continue.
