1. Tom Izzo knows this team isn’t close to its potential

If you would have heard Tom Izzo’s post-game presser on Sunday night, you would have thought the Spartans lost the game. He came in with a frustrated look on his face, talked about how his team didn’t play the way they had practiced and said that there’s plenty of room for improvement.

Izzo wasn’t pleased with the way his team played on both ends, especially in 3-point defense, and said that there is a lot of work to be done. Oh yeah, and the Spartans had won by 29 points.

The message was clear: Izzo knows this team can be so much better. Even a 29-point win over a decent Nebraska team doesn’t satisfy him. However, he did say that if the game was closer and his team played more aggressively, he would have been much happier. He doesn’t care about the blowout if they played poorly.

Guys like Cassius Winston, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Miles Bridges also stated that Izzo’s words weren’t surprising and they weren’t mad at his frustrations with their play. They agreed, in fact. It just goes to show how good this team can really be.
