Michigan State Football: 5 players who need to step up vs. Maryland in Week 12
By Stephen Robb
It was a pumped up Ohio State team seeking vengeance that this young Spartan team went into the Horseshoe to play last Saturday. Quarterback Brian Lewerke was feeling the heat all day and to make matters worse, his wide receivers were unable to create any separation.
This will improve as the receivers become better at running their routes. Cody White is a true freshman playing at a very competitive level. Michigan State is a year ahead of schedule for all accounts and purposes with this young team.
White was blanketed all day, however, in the previous week against Penn State, he dropped several passes. Granted the Penn State defensive backs got their hands in there to break up the pass.
However, as White matures he will get better focus and concentration in order to make those tough catches. It’s those receptions that separate wide receivers from the elites. White certainly has the talent to be an elite Big Ten wide receiver. The Spartans will need him Saturday to forget about OSU and have another outstanding game for them to beat Maryland.
