4. Dave Warner lost that game

It’s easy to pick on the offensive coordinator when things aren’t going well. Heck, I’ve been one of the harshest critics of Dave Warner over the past couple of years, but the Spartans just didn’t execute on Saturday.

One of the biggest overreactions from the fan base was that Warner was the reason the Spartans didn’t move the ball on the Buckeyes. He was the reason that Michigan State was held to just three points and under 200 total yards.

While a lot of blame can be put on a coordinator for a failure like Saturday’s performance, it wasn’t his fault that the team was just out-matched in every facet. The offensive line was dominated, the running backs couldn’t find lanes, receivers couldn’t create separation and Brian Lewerke was sent running for his life on each play.

Was that all his fault, too? Nope. You can blame him for lack of imagination, but don’t blame him for a 45-point loss when the Spartans were doomed from the get-go.
