4. Turnovers will continue to be an issue

Just like they have over the past few seasons under Tom Izzo, turnovers will continue to be a sore subject for the Spartans in post-game pressers. Obviously it won’t be all that bad since the Spartans will have enough talent to overcome sloppy play, but Izzo will still be furious with the turnover problem in the first month.

Last season was a disaster in terms of taking care of the ball as Michigan State averaged 14.2 turnovers per game, ranking No. 278 in college basketball.

That was a major reason for the blowout in Ann Arbor that this team experienced. Michigan State was pounced by Michigan last winter thanks to the Wolverines ranking No. 1 in turnovers in college basketball and the Spartans playing sloppy basketball. It truly is the difference between winning and losing sometimes.

However, through the first month, turnovers will be a problem as Michigan State averages 12-14 per game. Luckily, it won’t cost this team any wins as the talent will overcome the lack of ball control, but it’s something to keep an eye on.
