Things can’t get much better for Michigan State at the quarterback position. To start the year, the Spartans were looking to get slightly more production from Brian Lewerke than they received from Tyler O’Connor in 2016.

Through nine games, Lewerke already has more passing yards than O’Connor did all of last season. In fact, he recorded his second consecutive 400-yard game, hitting that mark right on the nose on 33-of-56 completions with two touchdowns and his only interception was on a tipped pass.

Lewerke had his best game of the season, and it wasn’t really that close. He played well against Northwestern last week to gain some confidence, but he made some NFL-type throws against he Nittany Lions Saturday afternoon and into the evening — including a nice touchdown pass to Darrell Stewart Jr. in the first half.

There’s a reason the coaching staff was so high on Lewerke before the season and even last year, comparing him to Kirk Cousins. Now we can see that he is Cousins-like and might end up being better than Captain Kirk.
