2. Brian Lewerke is the best quarterback in the conference

Let’s go down the list of quarterbacks in the Big Ten that would give Brian Lewerke a run for his money. First, there’s Ohio State’s JT Barrett and Penn State’s Trace McSorley. The sophomore just beat out the latter in a duel on Saturday night and gets a chance to prove himself against Barrett this coming weekend.

Next, you have Clayton Thorson, David Blough, Tanner Lee, Alex Hornibrook and Nathan Stanley. None of those guys, outside of maybe Thorson, have the skill set that Lewerke possesses.

Is Lewerke the best quarterback in the Big Ten? It’s too soon to say something like that with only two monster games under his belt, but if the last two games (845 yards, six touchdowns) are any indication, it looks like he might be on the way to being one of the best passers in the Big Ten.

Lewerke out-dueled McSorley on Saturday evening, which isn’t easy to do, and didn’t make any crucial mistakes. He bounced back from his only interception on a tipped pass to lead the game-winning drive. He is quickly becoming the next great Spartan quarterback and it started with him surpassing Tyler O’Connor’s passing total from 2016 in just nine games.
