3. Brian Lewerke is beginning to fulfill his potential

Who knows where this team would be without the play of sophomore quarterback Brian Lewerke. He has made costly mistakes thus far, however, he has shown the ability to learn from those mistakes. He has put his fumbling issues aside and has risen his play with each week.

The challenge he faces Saturday is a very good Penn State defense.

Penn State will shut down the Spartans’ meager rushing attack and force Lewerke to beat them through the air. He almost was able to do will the Spartans to a win over Northwestern. That game has served as a valuable lesson for the young signal caller.

The Nittany Lions can be exposed with the deep pass. While Lewerke missed on several wide open receivers, this is something that can be cleaned up. He has steadily improved and his improvement is more apparent now with a steady No. 1 receiver in Cody White.
