4. Turnovers (4) will hamper the Spartans

We’ve said it before and we will say it once again: turnovers are going to be an issue for Michigan State. The Spartans began the season with turnover issues as LJ Scott fumbled on the 1-yard line against Bowling Green in Week 1 and then again later in the game.

A few weeks later, the Spartans had a tough time holding onto the ball against Notre Dame, throwing a crucial pick-six, then Brian Lewerke fumbled and Scott fumbled on the 1-yard line yet again, which arguably turned the tide for good. That score would have pulled the Spartans within a touchdown before half, but Notre Dame got the ball back and added a touchdown to make it 28-7.

On Saturday afternoon, Penn State’s opportune defense will cause some big-time turnovers, and yes, that means fumbles by Lewerke and Scott will take place. Unfortunately, the Spartans won’t be able to hold onto the ball yet again as they turn it over four times.

Lewerke will also throw an interception. This won’t be the end of hope for Michigan State in this matchup, though, as the game will still go down to the wire.
