The month of November is upon us, that means it’s time for our Michigan State football bold predictions. Will Michigan State make a New Year’s Six bowl?

Just how far can Michigan State go in 2017? The Spartans finished 3-9 a season ago and at this time last season, they were fighting to get to three wins. It’s hard to believe they’re already at six with four games remaining. Yes, there’s a chance Mark Dantonio could finish with another 10-win campaign.

However, the toughest part of the schedule is coming in the next two weeks as Penn State comes to town in Week 10 and Michigan State travels to Columbus to face Ohio State in Week 11. Anything can happen over the course of the next month, but what specifically are we predicting?

Take a look at our five (extremely) bold predictions for the month of November.

5. Defense finishes in the top 10 nationally

As it stands right now, Michigan State has the eighth-best defense in college football. That’s impressive for such a young team, but for that to stand, the Spartans must shut down teams like Penn State and Ohio State in the next couple of weeks.

The Spartans allow 283 yards per game which is just one single yard more than Clemson and Mississippi State. The talent is there and Michigan State could shut down both Penn State’s (yes, I know Saquon Barkley still exists) and Ohio State’s run game, but it’s the pass that could be an issue.

I’m going to guess the Spartans allow 650 total yards to both the Nittany Lions and Buckeyes before completely shutting down Maryland and Rutgers (400 total yards) to end the season. That will place the Spartans in the top 10 in total defense to end the season.

What a stepping stone that would be for this young team coming off one of its worst defensive seasons in recent memory. A top 10 defense with just two seniors starting. The future is bright.
