2. Brian Lewerke is growing up before our eyes

There comes a time in every parent’s life when they notice changes in their child. That analogy could be used in this situation with Michigan State’s fans, coaches and fellow players being the parent and Brian Lewerke being the child. He’s growing up before our very eyes.

Mark Dantonio knew he had a special player when he named him the starter quarterback this past spring and even likened him to Kirk Cousins. That’s extremely high praise since he called Cousins the best player he has ever coached at Michigan State.

Through seven games, it wasn’t obvious which way Lewerke would be headed as he had good games and he had stinkers. Under the lights against Northwestern, Lewerke proved to be a future star. He proved to everyone that he has what it takes to improve and become what Cousins and Connor Cook did: Michigan State legends.

It didn’t happen overnight with Cousins or Cook, either. It took a few games, but Lewerke seems to be headed down that same road. Sure, he makes mistakes and he overthrows receivers now and then, but he is a highlight play waiting to happen. This kid is special.
