2. Brian Lewerke has his first true breakout performance

One of these days, Brian Lewerke is going to take that next step and break out for the Spartans. That day could come sooner rather than later as the Spartans are set to face off against one of the worst passing defenses in the conference. In fact, the Wildcats rank 93rd against the pass and they haven’t exactly faced a gauntlet of pass-heavy teams.

Lewerke will have the best game of his young career, gaining some confidence heading into a big Week 10 showdown with Penn State with a Big Ten East title on the line. There couldn’t be a better time for his best performance as he needs a confidence boost.

Northwestern’s secondary will struggle all day long against the Spartans’ athletic receivers and Lewerke will avoid staring down receivers and getting happy feet in the pocket. He’ll scramble, no doubt, but he will do so when nothing is open and positive yards are to be had.

The sophomore dual-threat will finish with 310 yards through the air with two touchdowns and he will rush for another 30-40 yards and convert some crucial third downs late with his legs. A confident Lewerke is the best Lewerke.
