Redshirt sophomore quarterback Brian Lewerke will face the Hoosiers for the first time as the starter. This Indiana game is a watershed moment for the Spartans’ 2017 season.

If the offense comes out and executes, then it will prove that they are continuing to move the right direction. It will also mean that Michigan State could be a real player in the Big Ten East division title race. Or if the Spartans come out and lay and egg on offense, then the narrative will be they are a young team still searching.

The key to making this offense work is Brian Lewerke. Last year it was Tyler O’Connor who was unable to get things going. Now, Lewerke is turning nothing into something with his legs.

Personally I’d like to see him progress more in his down-field passing, but I am also pleased with the Spartans’ 5-1 record. Indiana is a tough out and Mark Dantonio will need his quarterback to step up and make plays for MSU this weekend.
