3. Brian Lewerke is the next great Spartan QB

Watching Brian Lewerke run all over opposing defenses through the first few weeks of the season was exciting to see. Everyone knew he had dual-threat ability, but after suffering a broken leg against Michigan last season, it was just assumed that he would gear more toward passing the ball and veer away from the running side of things.

Fortunately, he has been able to avoid any injuries this season despite running 57 times for 318 yards. He looks like the best dual-threat since Drew Stanton and might be a Connor Cook or Kirk Cousins-esque passer before it’s all said and done.

However, he has a lot to prove with his arm before we can dub him the next great Spartan quarterback. He is completing 60 percent of his passes for 1,177 yards and nine touchdowns with three picks, but hasn’t really shown down-field capabilities with his arm just yet.

Don’t dub him great just yet, Spartan fans, but Lewerke’s future is bright. As soon as he works on his down-field accuracy and takes more shots, we can talk about him as a potential star for the Spartans.
