1. This team is worlds better than the 2016 Spartans

How good is Michigan State this season? We won’t know for sure just how effective the Spartans will be down the stretch and how many wins they’re actually worth, but one thing is for sure: this team is worlds better than the 2016 squad that finished 3-9.

Just six games into the year and Michigan State already has two more wins that the 2016 team did all year long. That’s incredible given the type of offseason the Spartans had and the attrition they suffered at important skill positions and on both offensive and defensive lines.

The team’s leaders are doing their jobs and the defense has improved tenfold. The Spartans look like a completely different team this year, and that’s because they are. The players like each other and they’re coachable. Everyone takes accountability for their own mistakes and no fingers are being pointed.

The result? A 5-1 record through six games and a chance to become bowl eligible by the end of October. That’s something no one saw coming when the season kicked off against Bowling Green.
