Michigan State football hit the road for the second time in Week 7 and came away with a win over Minnesota. What did we learn?

After taking down Michigan on its home turf in Week 6, everyone expected Michigan State football to go out and take care of business against Minnesota in Week 7. The game wasn’t even supposed to be all that close, but P.J. Fleck gets his guys up for big games.

Through three quarters, though, it was all Michigan State. The Golden Gophers had a tough time slowing down the Spartans and Michigan State’s defense bottled up Conor Rhoda and the Gophers’ offense. Still, Minnesota didn’t quit.

The game actually went down to the wire as the Gophers scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter after being held in check through the first three to make it a 30-27 game when the final whistle sounded.

Let’s take a look at five things we learned from the Spartans’ Week 7 victory over the Golden Gophers.

5. Offensive line is coming together nicely

When you look at where the offensive line was a couple weeks ago against Iowa and even before that against Notre Dame, it’s impressive to see this unit gel in the fashion that it is. For the second straight game, Brian Lewerke was kept upright and un-sacked.

Not just that, but the line opened major running lanes for Madre London and LJ Scott as those two backs combined for 268 yards and three rushing scores. It was the best game in terms of rushing that the Spartans had all season. It’s time for this unit to build on this performance and keep it going in Week 8 against Indiana.

While people might glance at the box score and say the running backs did a fantastic job, which they did, they also followed spectacular blocks and found huge holes up front. This line did an incredible job protecting and opening lanes.
