Michigan State football took a slight leap in the AP Top 25 this week to No. 18, jumping Michigan which sits at No. 19.

Four weeks ago after a loss to Notre Dame at home, who would have seen Michigan State football taking a major leap to No. 19 in the AP Top 25? Just about everyone jumped off the Spartans’ bandwagon after they dropped to 2-1 on the year with the loss, but Mark Dantonio and Co. are making doubters look foolish nowadays.

In fact, Michigan State is now 5-1 after beating Minnesota on the road in Week 7, moving all the way up to No. 18 in the polls. The Spartans have now leapfrogged Michigan, which sits at No. 19, which only makes sense as the green and white beat the Wolverines on their own field in Week 6.

Brian Lewerke didn’t have his best game against Minnesota on Saturday night, going just 9-of-18 for 120 yards and an interception in harsh conditions. He needs to be better at reading the secondary and making a decision based off their placement. He made too many throws into coverage.

On the other hand, it could be argued that LJ Scott is the reason the Spartans came away with a win in a game that the Gophers made a furious comeback. He ran for 194 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries — all career-bests.
