1. Michigan State is now the Big East favorite

This might be the most epic of overreactions from Saturday night’s triumph over the Wolverines. After winning in Ann Arbor against the No. 7 team in college football and arguably a top threat to Penn State’s Big Ten throne, the Spartans should now be considered the conference title favorites.

There are a few reasons why that’s not quite true yet. First, Michigan hasn’t won the conference in over a decade, so a win over the Wolverines shouldn’t mean much more than bragging rights at this point. Second, Penn State is the defending champion of the Big Ten, so a win over the Nittany Lions would mean much more. And third, Ohio State is still the big kid on the block.

The Big Ten East is absolutely loaded and whether or not that’s fair doesn’t really matter. Whoever comes out of that division is likely headed to the College Football Playoff. On Saturday, the Spartans made a power move and joined the conversation.

Did Michigan State become the favorite after the victory? Nope, but it was the best victory of anyone in the Big Ten this season. Yes, better than Ohio State’s and Penn State’s wins. Still, the Spartans have a ways to go and beating both the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions would be a start.
