Michigan State football is gearing up for a big contest against Michigan in Week 6 and here are five Spartans who need to step up.

It’s finally here: Michigan week. Michigan State is off a decent start to its 2017 season, but the Spartans could really make things interesting for themselves with a road win over the seventh-ranked Wolverines.

With some uncertainty on both sidelines, we should all expect a bit of the unexpected Saturday at the Big House. Michigan State has a chip on its shoulder (yet again), but the Spartans need a few big performances to make that count for something.

While it’s anyone’s guess who will shine the brightest under the lights in this in-state rivalry game, we believe these Spartans need to step up if Michigan State hopes to pull off the upset.

Stewart was a weapon for Michigan State in its first two games of the season, posting consecutive performances with 100-plus combined receiving and rushing yards. Since then, he hasn’t been as much of a factor — especially in the running game.

While this isn’t all Stewart’s fault, Michigan State needs him to step up against the Wolverines to provide MSU quarterback Brian Lewerke with a second target. Michigan is going to do all it can to force Lewerke to get the ball to his second and third options with Felton Davis III now solidified as the young QB’s top target.

If Stewart can make them pay a couple times early, it will open things up significantly for Lewerke and the MSU offense.
