4. There’s no hope for the offensive line, run game

Let’s face it, the run game might be in trouble. Is there talent in the backfield? Absolutely. Is there talent on the offensive line? Plenty. However, for some reason or another, neither position group has been getting the job done this season.

The offensive line has been solid in pass protection, but when trying to create running lanes, opposing front-sevens have clogged everything up. Is the line just not taking care of its assignments or are the running backs not hitting holes hard enough?

Honestly, it’s a little bit of both. On Saturday, the Spartan running backs were approaching the holes timidly and even though the lanes were slim and hard to come by, the backs didn’t make it much better by already conceding a 1-2 yard gain or even a loss before hitting the line.

There is hope for these two groups, though. These guys are all young, for the most part, so it’s just about gelling and trusting each other. Don’t give up on the run game yet, folks, but maybe Dave Warner needs to wake up.
