Michigan State football still has spots to fill in its 2018 recruiting class and four-star defensive back Kalon Gervin could fit nicely.

One of the perks of a bye week is the fact that the coaching staff can use that time to recruit. For Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio, that means taking trips across the country to visit with guys he wouldn’t normally have time to see during the season.

Although he’s going to be out of town, for the most part, Dantonio has to keep his sights set on his own backyard with a guy like Kalon Gervin still on the board. The four-star Detroit-native defensive back is one of the top players in the 2018 class and considers MSU one of his favorites.

According to Sean Scherer of 247Sports, Gervin plans on visiting Michigan State at the conclusion of his senior season. Seeing as Cass Tech usually makes a deep playoff run, that could be the end of November.

"“Yep,” Gervin responded when asked if planned to take an official visit to MSU. “Michigan State is one of my top schools. I hear from them every week. They are getting better, and I like that.”"

It seems as if the Spartans have gotten back in the running for Gervin after it looked like they were ruled out about a month ago. Rumors were spreading that both sides weren’t communicating and Michigan State was completely out of the race, but this is a good sign for MSU.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound defensive back from Detroit holds about 40 offers, but is looking closely at the likes of Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Oregon and MSU. He was once committed to Notre Dame.

Gervin is ranked the No. 175 overall recruit in the class and the 18th-best cornerback in the 2018 class, according to 247Sports.
