4. Josiah Scott is the best defensive back since Trae Waynes

After being graded out as the top-performing freshman in college football last week, the expectations were high surrounding Josiah Scott. He was going to be looked at as a leader in the defensive backfield as a true freshman and possibly the unit’s best player.

A week later and fans are still buzzing about his performance versus Western Michigan. He recorded the team’s only interception and had a nice pass deflection later in the game down the field. He stayed hip-to-hip with his receiver and made a nice play on the ball.

While he’s played well early on, some fans are going completely over the top with his hype. Yes, he’s a solid player and will be an All-Big Ten, and potentially All-American, performer before his career is over in East Lansing, but he has only played Bowling Green and Western Michigan thus far.

It’s not fair to add pressure like this to the young star. Placing unfair expectations on a young player like Scott could crush him, especially if he has an off game. He’s trying not to listen to the hype, but fans also need to pump the brakes.
