Michigan State football hosts Western Michigan on Saturday and here are five bold predictions for the contest.

For Michigan State football, Saturday’s game against Western Michigan is more than just an in-state battle. It’s more about gaining traction and confidence heading into the bye week. The Spartans will face Notre Dame and Iowa to close out the month of September after the bye, so this game is much more important than it may seem.

The first contest of the year against Bowling Green ended in a convincing win for the Spartans. Brian Lewerke got his first win as the team’s starting quarterback and looks to carry that over into the second week against Western.

The Broncos may have a new look without P.J. Fleck roaming the sidelines, but they still have plenty of talent. Don’t expect the Broncos to roll over, this team played in a Cotton Bowl a season ago and won 13 games.

Here are five bold predictions for the matchup.

5. Josiah Scott’s first interception

Being dubbed the top-performing freshmen in the country in Week 1 by Pro Football Focus has to be an honor for Josiah Scott, but he’s not satisfied. Sure, it’s something to brag about, but once game day approaches, it’s a distant memory.

Week 2 will come with even more memories for the freshman cornerback from Ohio. He didn’t get the start last week against Bowling Green because he had been fighting injuries in the fall, but he played exceptionally well. He will step up to have an even better game against a less-experienced quarterback.

Scott is a master at reading opposing quarterbacks and he will do so to Jon Wassink of Western Michigan, picking off a third-quarter pass and nearly returning it for a score. What a way to start a career, right?
