Brandon Randle’s first game with the Spartans was a quiet one. He didn’t record a single tackle but he did have a QB hurry. He showed off his impressive athleticism during the hurry, coming just short of making the sack on Bowling Green’s James Morgan.

If Randle can turn hurries into sacks this week against Western Michigan, the Spartans will be in good shape. Michigan State doesn’t need him to be a superstar on the line, or at his natural linebacker position, right away, but the Spartans do need him to produce and maybe work into a starting role eventually.

There’s no doubting his potential, but he had to learn a new position this fall which may have slowed his progress overall as a contributor. He’s a smart kid, can hit hard and will have a bigger impact against the Broncos on Saturday.

Michigan State needs to start developing a pass rush, and Randle can give this team a leg up. It’s not a matter of if he will break out, but rather when.
