4. Raequan Williams breaks his sack total from 2016

Michigan State doesn’t have much depth on its defense line, which hurt majorly in 2016. The Spartans finished with just 11 total sacks as a team and that was about as disappointing as things could get. Each defensive line unit has been broken up, though, and the ends are being coached separately from the tackles, which could actually help.

Hear me out, but when the player-to-coach ratio is minimized, the groups usually learn more. Think of it like school. In a big lecture hall, students don’t feel as important or feel like they learn as much as if they’re in a small classroom of 15-20 students. Everything has a different feel now.

Raequan Williams is one of the guys who will benefit from this change. The sophomore tackle finished the 2016 season with 2.5 sacks but he missed a little time as well. He’s going to break that 2016 total in the first month of action for the Spartans.

Against Bowling Green, he will finish with 1.5 sacks, he’ll have another against Western Michigan, will be held without a sack against Notre Dame and will add one more against Iowa. How does 3.5 sacks in the first month sound? Good, right?
