Bowling Green is on the clock and the Falcons will now get to prepare for the Spartans with the depth chart becoming public.
The Spartan football Twitter account posted the link via their page:
Now that we have a better idea of what the rotation looks like at each position, it’s safe to say that there’s plenty of youth getting an opportunity.
Some depth chart news and notes:
- Josiah Scott, once named a freshman starter, is the No. 2 cornerback behind Josh Butler. Some have said Butler is the most improved defender.
- Damion Terry won the No. 2 quarterback job, for now, over Messiah deWeaver and Rocky Lombardi.
- AJ Arcuri was believed to be a potential two-deep tackle, but was not listed. Instead, Jordan Reid, Mustafa Khaleefah and Dennis Finley are the backup tackles named. He’s apparently injured, though.
- As always, LJ Scott, Gerald Holmes and Madre London are all listed as ‘OR’ at running back. Connor Heyward is the fourth back listed.
- As expected, Cody White, Hunter Rison and Cam Chambers will all be heavily in the receiver rotation.
- Matt Morrissey is listed as the starting free safety over David Dowell.
- Brandon Randle is listed as the backup Star linebacker instead of on the defensive line. Antjuan Simmons in third.
- Former walk-on Kenny Willekes is starting over Demetrius Cooper at defensive end while Dillon Alexander has taken over the other end spot.
- Darrell Stewart Jr. has taken over punt/kick return duties this year while Laress Nelson is second on the depth chart there. Cody White is also in the mix.
- Brett Scanlon is listed as the starting kickoff guy while Matt Coghlin and him are ‘OR’ at placekicker. It looks like there’s an ongoing battle there that will stretch into the season.
- Only two seniors are starting (one one each side of the ball) while 12 underclassmen are in the No. 1 rotation.
As you can see, there’s plenty to talk about on the first official depth chart and there will be more questions answered on Saturday against Bowling Green.
