Michigan State football made the cut for three-star 2018 running back Elijah Collins from Detroit, Mich.

Earlier this summer, it looked like Michigan State football had missed out on three-star Detroit, Mich., running back target Elijah Collins. The Detroit U-D Jesuit junior was on campus during Michigan State’s football camp, but opted to attend the basketball session instead.

It looked like Mark Dantonio may have missed the window he had to land Collins, but a recent visit seemed to change things for the better.

In fact, the staff has made him a priority running back target in the Spartans’ 2018 class and on Monday he released his list of top schools, including Michigan State.

The other programs to make his top six are Iowa, Wisconsin, Purdue, Pittsburgh and Mississippi State. A majority are Big Ten programs, but he kept Pat Narduzzi’s Panthers in the running as well as an SEC school (Mississippi State). The Spartans look to be the favorites right now, but there is still a ways to go.

This is the time of the year in which recruits begin planning official visits based around their regular season schedules. The Spartans may not get an official, as recruits are only allowed five, since they aren’t a far travel for Collins.

Collins joins Harold Joiner and Ronnie Walker as the Spartans’ top running back targets in 2018 and the coaching staff is looking to take two in this class. The Detroit-native is quick, has good vision and is aggressive with the ball in his hands. When he hits a hole, he does so with a purpose.
