Michigan State football received its first commitment in the 2019 class from four-star in-state offensive tackle Spencer Brown.

Just a few hours into Michigan State football’s first practice of fall ball, the Spartans received some good news. No, it wasn’t about a particular player breaking out, but rather a commitment to kick off the 2019 class. Four-star in-state tackle Spencer Brown made his verbal pledge to the green and white.

Brown had been a prominent figure on the Spartans’ radar ever since they offered on May 3 and he continues to be one of the most crucial players in the class. He has a chance to come in and play right away for Michigan State.

On Monday afternoon, he made his announcement via Twitter and thanked Mark Dantonio and the rest of the staff for believing in him.

This is a huge shot in the arm for Spartans’ recruiting. Michigan State had been focused on the 2018 class, but the start of fall camp brought in a number of 2019 prospects and there may be another pledge heading Michigan State’s way this week, if not on Monday.

Brown is a talented kid that can play both sides of the ball, as shown on his highlight film. He’s strong at the point of attack and surprisingly agile and athletic for his size.

The junior stands 6-foot-6 and weighs in at 295 pounds. He can be an overpowering force and he still has plenty of time to add some strength. He has the potential to be one of Michigan State’s top commits in the 2019 class.
